Things to do when you're pregnant in Manchester

A guide from The Nest Collective

There's a lot of activities for pregnancy in Manchester, and getting out, moving, and meeting other pregnant people is one of the best things you can do for yourself in those months before the baby arrives.

This is a guide to what's available across south Manchester and the city centre, with some options further away. As always, check directly with providers before heading out as times and prices change.

The Yoga Rooms, Chorlton A beautiful, light studio on Barlow Moor Road running dedicated pregnancy yoga courses. High demand - places need to be booked in advance and there's often a waiting list, so email sarah@theyogarooms.co.uk as early as possible. yogainchorlton.co.uk

Pregnancy circles

Pregnancy circles are small, facilitated group gatherings for pregnant people to connect, share and feel supported. A quieter, more intimate alternative to a fitness class - and often where the most meaningful conversations happen.

The Baby Village Pregnancy Social Circles, Sale Small groups of up to seven women meeting fortnightly at Thrive Wellbeing Hub, Sale (M33 7UB). Every other Monday, 7–8pm. Around £6.50–£7.50 per session. Gently guided around a theme, with relaxation techniques and space for open conversation. the-baby-village.co.uk/pregnancy-circles

Aquanatal swimming

Water is one of the most comfortable environments to be in during pregnancy - the buoyancy takes the pressure off your joints, your bump feels weightless, and gentle resistance exercise is good for circulation and energy levels.

Aquanatal at Moss Side Leisure Centre The most accessible local option. A free or low-cost aquanatal class every Wednesday at 1:15pm–2pm at Moss Side Leisure Centre, run by Better with a trained prenatal instructor. Brilliant for meeting other pregnant people locally. better.org.uk/manchester/pre-post-natal

WomenFIT Aquanatal - multiple locations A pre and postnatal fitness specialist running three aquanatal classes a week across Manchester. Tuesdays 7:30pm at Nuffield Health Didsbury, Wednesdays 12:30pm at Nuffield Health Printworks in the city centre, and a Thursday evening class in Hale. Suitable from 12 weeks until birth - 45 minutes of class followed by 15 minutes to chat to other pregnant people. There's also a members Facebook group so you can stay in touch between sessions. Book at bookwhen.com/womenfit · @womenfitmanchester on Instagram.

Dolphin Babies - Aquanatal Yoga Birthlight-accredited aquanatal yoga classes across Greater Manchester - the only Birthlight certified provider in the North West. A more specialist option combining yoga techniques with the pool environment. dolphinacademy.co.uk
